The Day When I Spread The Love | #CommunityOverCompetition & The Liebster Award

Community Over Competition—Explore The Liebster Award

So... I got nominated.

Like over a month ago.

Anyways, I got nominated for the Liebster Award and realized that I had yet to return the favor. So I thought it would be a cool idea to not only follow up with this blog post but also share a video as well.

This award is by bloggers to bloggers in order to recognize their hard work, accomplishments and just overall building a supportive online community. And I love this award because especially when I first started blogging, low key, I felt alone at times in my little speck of the interwebs. So now with this nomination, I get to help someone else who may also be looking for that community as well as acknowledge their awesomeness at the same damn time.

For me, I see the Liebster as a way to build up community between bloggers and I think this hashtag sums it best—#CommunityOverCompetition.

There's good competition.

I mean sometimes you just need that extra fire under your ass.

However, most of the time, competition is just a guise for unhealthy comparisons.

And I won't lie, when I first started blogging I felt myself getting sucked into that trap.

With that being said, I no longer want to feel like I'm about that ish.

  • Because I'm not.
  • Because I didn't start this blog with that intention.
  • Because my blog journey/story won't be the same as anyone else's.

So with this nomination, I'm really just saying that this is a community, thank you for your authenticity & transparency and be sure to spread the love. Therefore check out my 11 facts about myself, either in the video or the verbiage below as well as my answers to Alexis' 11 questions and my 11 questions for the lovely folks that I nominated. Here's a link to Alexis, the awesome blogger over at Nick Alexis who nominated me.

11 Facts About Me:

  1. I’m The Oldest Out of 3 Kids

  2. I’m The Only Girl in My Family

  3. I’m Professionally Single i.e. Never Been in A Relationship and is cool with that

  4. I’m An Awkward Turtle

  5. I’m a 90’s Kid

  6. I’m A Superhero i.e. Marvel's Jessica Jones, both old and new

  7.  I Don’t Get Hate—The concept of hate baffles me at times. Having full access to your emotions is a blessing. But to remain in hate and to allow that to fuel your actions to the point that becomes harmful to you and others is what I do not understand—especially discriminatory hate i.e. unwarranted hate, i.e. blind, ignorant hatred.

  8. I have a Disney Pocahontas blanket and it's my baby blanket that my Granny wrapped me in for most of my life.

  9. I’m A Creator—Meaning I live for creating something either through writing, design, storytelling or YouTubing.

  10. I’m Pro Black—For me, being Pro-Black is saying my culture is a lituation that I’m proud of. Now, that does not mean I think Black culture is better or is set at a higher standard than other cultures. It means that though I’m all about this one, it doesn’t mean I'm going to close myself off, disregard or show any form of hate towards anyone else’s culture. It means cultural diversity and saying that Black culture, my culture, is that ish I do like at the same damn time.

  11. I’m Transparent—Meaning, transparency is just being real about who you are and what you do. And I believe in transparency in everything from business to ya personal life.

11 A's to Alexis' Q's:

1. Where is your favorite place that you have traveled to?

My A: Greece. I went for a high school trip to Greece, Italy and Spain, and honestly, it's hard to decide between the three. But I think the beauty of the Grecian waters is (all the images in my head that I can't explain in words).

2. What is your dream career?

My A: My ideal career is to make a living transformatively creating—i.e. creating mini miracles to anyone who needs it—low key what I'm doing now as a Content Writer.

My A: To be honest, my favorite artists right now is binge listening to #BlackExcellence at The Read and Another Round

4. Do you keep your phone on ringer or vibrate?

My A: Vibrate all day, everyday—maybe it's because I have wack ringtones or maybe from long term practice—who knows, but it is what is.

5. Who is your biggest inspiration?

My A: I'm just gonna list it cause I got inspirations all day, everyday and I'm a Libra so here we go:

  • My parents
  • Maya Angelou
  • Octavia Butler
  • Paulo Coelho
  • Issa Rae
  • Lilly Singh

6. Why did you start your blog?

My A: I started blogging, because during my first year out of college, my expectations clouded my situation and caused a lot of self-inflicted shaming and just wallowing in my own disappointment. Meaning, my disappointment equals me not getting or knowing where I needed or wanted to go. Meaning, I felt like I did the things I was supposed to but didn't put in enough work in myself to figure out what the outcome should be for me.

So I created a birthday challenge to myself where I would write 24 blog posts and then post them live wrapped around the phrase, BARE, Being Actively Real Everywhere. I think that phrase is what got me out of my expectations, because through my writing and through that whole challenge journey, to MYSELF, I realized who I am, my capabilities and just to stop throwing pity parties for no reason.

With that being said, I started blogging to first show up for myself, i.e., just showing up and keeping it 100 with myself all day, everyday, and then later share that in whatever way I could for others to start and find their own journey towards their realness.

7. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

My A: Wait, wait, wait. We just addressed that I'm a Libra right. This...this is just cruel. Anyways, I think I would go with mangos. Cause low key that food is just candy and can go with a lot of things.

8. What social media platform is your favorite?

My A: Instagram

9. What is your ultimate goal for your blog?

My A: For those who need it, to inspire and empower folks to show up and keep it 100 with themselves first and then share their authenticity openly and genuinely with no shame or hate to anyone else's active realness. #RealRecognizeReal

10. Do you prefer coffee or tea?

My A: Tea all day, everyday, i.e., Peppermint, Green, Chamomile, Lavender, etc. Though I won't lie, a good Starbucks Caramel Frappuccino with Extra Caramel and Extra Whip is BOMB—every now and again.

11. Where is your favorite place to find blogging inspiration?

My A: Terri Lomax at the Mocha Girl Pit Stop, GG Renee at the All the Many Layers, Ashley Coleman at Write, Laugh Dream, Bryanda at Quirky Brown Love
