aimless (definition) | without purpose or direction
Let’s be real, I didn’t have a plan after college. The plan was that I would find an internship (bonus if it’s paid) and work part time to put the money on the side towards grad school aspirations.
This plan seemed pretty solid.
However, let’s be honest here. Once I started working for my internship and two part time jobs, I let myself drown in the daily hustle and questioned why I didn’t feel fulfilled every single day. I mean I was making steps to completing my goals.
Well in August, after no longer having any of the jobs that I acquired during my first year out of college, I realized I was back at square one. And now that I was back in the job search pool, I realized during my forced self-reflective waiting period that:
1) Did I actually want to find another “job”? and
2) What, to me, would be my ideal position?
Ya, I couldn’t answer that. And it wasn’t until I was put back into the job market that I even thought about these questions.
My present situation had me feeling aimless and disappointed. However, I didn’t want to wallow in it either. By noticing these negative problems, I wanted to see how they could be tackled on in a holistic way. And after much contemplation, I decided to create BARE, Being Actively Real Everywhere.
This statement to live BARE is an affirmation to acknowledge and appreciate who you are right now regardless of your present situation. And through appreciation, you’ll be able to genuinely express yourself regardless of the disappointments and the failures that may hold you down. Acknowledging these feelings in a genuine and honest way in order to give you the courage to break out of self perpetuating negativity and move forward.
Being a wanderer with purpose is using self-reflection, self-acceptance and self-care to define your purpose in order to openly express yourself.
Being a wanderer with purpose is not the you who focuses heavily on your future self causing you to procrastinate and take you away from the power of present change.
And a wanderer with purpose is not the you who lingers in the past either. Because the past is a place of stagnation. A repetition of fading memories. And all you need is past lessons in order to navigate you toward present progress.
For me, I’m claiming that I am a wanderer with purpose, because I’m defining my purpose by not shooting for someone else’s goal or fulfilling a plan that is not necessary for me to rush into.
I’m a wanderer with purpose because I am reflecting on my past and learning its lessons.
I am accepting the seemingly unfittable pieces that make up who I am.
I am caring for myself not only physically but mentally through positive living.
And I’m a wanderer with purpose because I am able to express myself openly especially with this blog by practicing this form of digital self-reflection, self-acceptance, self-care and self-expression.
All we have is here. All we have is this present space to make change and define our purpose.
Wander through life with purpose carrying a pencil to erase the steps that seem unfruitful and arbitrary to your growth. And navigate this life using self-reflection, self-acceptance, self-care and self-expression to guide you toward knowing yourself.
What does being a wanderer with purpose mean for you?
As we close 2015, reflect on past events both positive and negative.
Accept this year’s achievements as well as its disappointments.
Care for yourself by taking small steps to take care of your body and mind i.e. more hours of sleep, reading daily quotes, meditation, etc.
Express yourself through your own unique form of expression without unconstructive criticism all day, everyday.
Just lettin' you know that though I’m an affiliate for this bundle, I’m doing it because I thoroughly believe in the positive work that these purposeful women are doing-- not to mention the fact that I’m a fan of many of the contributors, including Letitia, who churns out awesome content all day, everyday for us girl bosses.
